Dear Friends of the Huachuca Mountains,
We all know that summer in Arizona is mostly a survival course. Unfortunately, so is the greeter program at Carr House. Please sign up for a shift (3½ hrs); your participation is sorely needed. It seems such a shame to be closed. For greeter information, please call or email me.
On a happier note, we still have some of the beautiful “Butterflies of the e Huachucas” posters by Pricilla Brodkin for sale ($10). They are at Carr House, if we’re open. These make lovely gifts or mementoes for family, friends and visitors.
Hope it rains a lot at my house and yours!
Ann Smith
Friends of the Huachuca Mountains President
MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW FOR OUR ANNUAL MEETING – Sunday, October 24
Carole and Bob Combs have accepted our invitation to be with us at the Sunday, Oct. 24, annual meeting of the Friends of the Huachuca Mountains. They are happy to share stories about living at Carr Ranch when the Forest Service bought it in 1972 and Bob was a ranger there. The head ranger lived in the Healy ranch house. The Combs had young children and have pictures of holiday gatherings, etc. from their time up there. It will be interesting to find out the Forest Service plans for the property then, how they saw their mission, what the area was like, who lived nearby, what was happening on the reef, the border, the trails… And, they can share with us stories of the Healys, hunters, birders and others living in the canyon at that time.
So, please save the date and join us for good food, fellowship, and an interesting talk from these former Carr Ranch residents!
